Neonrain
The new tool simplified the process for Douglas County’s
parents to choose the best-fit school for their students.
The Client
Formed in 1958, the Douglas County School District is Colorado's third-largest school district, serving 64,000 students from preschool through twelfth grade in 124 schools.
The Challenge
When they rolled out their School Choice Program, Douglas County School District received regional and national media attention. The new open enrollment policy allowed parents to select the best public schools for their children, regardless of where those schools were located.
With over 100 schools to choose from, DCSD needed the right tools to bring the initiative to life and help parents make the best decisions for their children.
The Solution
Neon Rain developed a cutting-edge tool that aggregated information from all the schools in the district into an accessible platform for parents.
This advanced filtering tool allowed parents to choose the most important educational factors for their students, with categories including location, school life, school resources, academics, athletics, and activities.
For each selection, parents could also choose a priority level from “like it” to “must have it.”
Neon Rain developed an algorithm that would create matches based on the selected criteria and weights, distinguishing between 100% matches and partial matches.
From there, parents could create favorites and even display comparison charts to easily evaluate shortlisted schools.
With a simpler way to navigate an overwhelming number of school choices, DCSD parents were able to more confidently make choices that set their kids up for future success.
"Neon Rain's amazingly smart staff has been committed to achieving our vision and
they have the skills to make incredible things happen."
